ABOUT THE ARTIST: SUDIPTA

I grew up an inquisitive girl in Delhi, India - amazed by the life around me and longing to travel the world. My curiosity drove me to get a PhD in Molecular Biology. After years of training at the University of California San Diego, I currently work in the biotech industry focusing on developing clinical diagnostic products for cancer and the Covid-19 virus. One sunny day in California, my passion to travel the world met my camera and both of them have been inseparable ever since. Photography, for me, has become an answer to all my questions. As a scientist I’m trained to look deeper, whether it’s in macro-shots or while capturing the myriad moods of people in portrait shots. I believe being a photographer has made me a better scientist and vice versa.

My photographic journey has led me to explore exotic new places, new cultures and new cuisines with Sarad, and we are richer for this experience. We both believe that photography is a learned art that needs to be shared to be fully enjoyed. This website is our way of sharing, connecting and enjoying this beautiful art form with you!

ABOUT THE ARTIST: SARADWATA

I can't stop snapping all the time nor can I stop shooting people. I know that sounds quite terrible but let me assure you that's normal in my line of work - I am a photographer! I also have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (Go Blue!) and currently work in the medical device industry as an image processing and computer vision scientist. As you may have guessed, my interest in photography aligns quite well with my day job and I constantly feed off of both to keep my creative juices flowing.

My photographic journey started in 2013 when Sudipta and I purchased our first DSLR camera on route to a Crater Lake, Oregon trip. While we may not have managed to get many good pictures out of our camera from that trip we did end up learning a lot and have been learning ever since. Photography remains my passion and traveling all over the world with Sudipta shooting people, places and things is a manifestation of that passion. Winning several awards along the way has been an added bonus. And I am excited to continue snapping, shooting and sharing the images from our travels right here on our website with you.

Why is your website called FromDelhiToCali?

FromDelhiToCali is short for "From Delhi to California" - four words that aptly sum our life journey from the land of our childhood (Delhi, India) to the land of our current residence in adulthood (California, USA). While we have traveled all over the world, it is these two lands that we hold closest to our hearts. In many ways 'From Delhi to Cali' also captures the essence of our photography. Very often our images, our thoughts, our creative viewpoints represent an amalgamation of our experiences living in these two culturally distinct lands. We find our photography richer for having experienced both these places and the name of our website is a tribute to that.

What type of photography do you do?

Landscape, Urban, Studio, Floral, People, Wildlife - we are into everything! Each genre of photography has it's own creative challenges and we enjoy them all. That said, we both do have our preferences. While Sudipta is partial to People, Floral and Studio Photography, Sarad is more inclined towards Landscape, Urban and Wildlife Photography. No matter what your taste, we hope you will find something to enjoy on our website.

We are located online!

Well, we are physically located in San Francisco, California but that's not how we roll. In today's digital world we are expanding our online presence and that's how we would love to connect with you. The best way to reach us is to use the 'Contact Us' section of our website. Please drop us a note explaining what you are looking for and we will respond back as soon as we are able.

How can you help with my Photographic needs?

We do extensive pro bono work for non profit organizations and will be honored to do our bit for a good cause. Please feel free to reach us if you are a NPO/NGO and need help with content creation, photography workshops, video creation, poster making and generation of outreach material.
